Recently I was asked what it takes to be successful? Usually when asked that question we hear the typical response about working hard, surrounding yourself with trustworthy people or never compromise your integrity. While I agree with the traditional responses, below are a few that I personally believe in and they have proven to serve me well...
Have An Ego...
Yes, I know it isn’t politically correct – but you need an ego. You need to have a bullet proof belief in yourself and what you are building, because there will be many people who will try to shoot you (and your ideas) down. I have yet to meet one successful business leader who doesn’t have this ego and belief.
Personal Development...
My life COMPLETELY changed once I understood that to get to the next level, I had to change the person that was trying to get there. You are the sum of the 5 people you hang with, so I had to go on a 'Negativity Diet' and cut out the bullshit. I read a book a week and devote one hour a day for my personal development. MAKE the time to better yourself.
Subtraction...
Success is in subtraction, not addition. I live my life in '90 day cycles' and cut something out each time. One cycle was no snooze button, then one was no mobile phone in the bedroom. I'm currently on 'No Coffee' for 90 days and its life changing!
I honestly don’t care what my competition is doing. I care about what I am doing, and that’s what I focus on. If I work toward my mission and use this as a guide, I will continue on my own path. The more you focus on your competitor, the less time you spend on your own growth.
Be You...
